SMBiT Professionals is pleased to bestow an Honorary Membership to Rodney Boyle, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of SMBiT Professionals.
During the year 2004, a small group of IT professionals would meet once a month at Rodney’s office. The meetings were very informal and were basically a get together of like-minded people having a chat (and a beer) about the industry and its challenges.
It was decided at one of these meetings to formalise the group, to provide an organisation that would concentrate on the development and improvement of the member’s businesses and they should investigate setting up an incorporated association. The attendees consisted of two groups of people. One group wanted the association to be formed to provide an organisation that would concentrate on the development and improvement of the member’s businesses with the discussion of technical aspects to be of secondary importance and the other group wanted a purely technical, user group type format.
On a vote the business management model was elected and this meant that some of the prospective members, being the user group model, left the organisation and continued to meet at Microsoft’s office as a Microsoft User Group.
A sub-committee meeting was then called on 14th December 2004. As a result the Small Business IT Professionals Association (SBITPA) was formed as an Incorporated Association and Rodney Boyle appointed Vice President. The first General Meeting of SBITPA was held on Tuesday 8th February 2005. Rodney held many committee positions over the years.
The SBS User Group also incorporated and became what we are today, SMBiT Professionals. A few years later Rodney was a key player in the negotiations between SBITPA and SMBiT Professionals where an agreement was formed to merge the members, funds and business focus into SMBiT Professionals.
Rodney is part owner and director of Melbourne based ITNOW Group, a multi-competency Microsoft Partner and Small Business Specialist.
