Honorary Membership Dr John G Cromie
SMBiT Professionals is pleased to bestow an Honorary Membership to Dr John G Cromie in recognition of his ongoing contribution to technology and innovation in the IT sector.
Dr John G Cromie is a company director and technology CEO of broad international experience, having led dynamic companies in Australia, the US and Europe. With over 30 years of experience at CEO level with extensive participation at board level across the globe, John’s career has focused on technology and innovation. One of the first to graduate with a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Monash University, John’s key innovative themes from his thesis have been widely published in top marketing journals.
Educated at Scotch College, Melbourne, and a graduate in Engineering from the University of Melbourne in the mid 70’s, John has over 40 years’ experience in the IT industry spanning several major transnational computer companies, as well as specialist consulting firms and small to medium enterprises. John was employed by Hewlett-Packard for 12 years, including seven as Division General Manager of the Australian Software Operation, HP’s first product development division in the southern hemisphere, which he started from scratch and grew to become Australia’s largest exporter of software.
His research skills span both international R&D-based firms and the formal disciplines of academic research. He has also participated extensively in policy setting and funding for research and development at university, state and federal level, including four years on the Federal Industry Research and Development Board and several of its committees. He was also a member of the federal BITS (Building IT Success) Incubator Advisory Panel and served as inaugural CEO of CITRI, then Australia’s largest IT research institute with over 200 post-graduate IT research staff.
Prior to undertaking a DBA, John was CEO of ManageSoft Corporation, an international software company specialising in software management solutions for global enterprises. Based in both the US and Australia, with ten offices on three continents, ManageSoft became the leader in its segment. John led the company from its North American headquarters in Nashua, New Hampshire, with a Board and executive team spread across North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific. One of BRW’s top 100 fastest growing Australian companies, ManageSoft was a top 100 performer in R&D and winner of the 1999 Governor of Victoria Export Award for Information Industries. John is a former national director of the Australian Information Industry Association as well as a founder of SMBiT Professionals in Victoria and nationally.
